At SHOT Show 2017 Blue Force Gear has introduced the latest addition to their line of trauma/medical pouches. The Micro Trauma Kit Now! was developed for all applications in which a lower profile is a necessity while still carrying essential lifesaving supplies.
Like the bigger version (Urban Survivor Blog, review of the Trauma Kit Now!), the Micro Trauma Kit Now! consists of two components: the outer pouch and the removable inner supply carriage.
The Micro TKN was designed as an EDC trauma kit for law enforcement professionals, prepared citizens, or hunters. Deployment of critical first aid supplies can be done with one hand or a single finger from either the left or right side by pulling the BLIP featured pull tabs. The Micro TKN consists of two main components – the outer MOLLE or Belt mounted pouch utilizing the Ten-Speed technology, and a removable insert that keeps medical supplies organized.
The front outer pouch features a laser cut cross with several signal indicators – black insert, red, or highly reflective glow-in-the-dark insert. The end user can decide which indicator works best for their use or leave all the inserts out for a pattern matched front for maximum concealability.
The Micro Trauma Kit NOW!™ is available in several variations with or without medical supplies.

FROG.PRO New Products for 2017
FROG.PRO produces some of the finest tactical products found today on the market. Easy Access Backpack
The easy access backpack is designed to provide each operator the ability to access its own gear without dismounting the whole kit. For many years we have seen on the battlefields and on the ranges the use assault backpacks in conjunction with plate carriers and chest rigs. This method created inefficiency in the operator’s movement due to the overlap of the straps of each piece of kit. The industry then moved to a new standard, the fixed assault backpack mounted with MOLLE/PALS on the back panel of the plate carrier, this of course changed the dynamics since the operator was unable to reach and utilize the equipment mounted on his back.
The FROG.PRO Easy Access Backpack is designed to allow the operator to secure the pack without the overlap of straps (especially in the area in which the long weapon is shouldered).
The pack features a bungee cord internal retention system and a loop Velcro® panel deigned for securing mags, frags, flashbangs, or M18 smoke. The ingenious and innovative design of the zippers allow the operator to access to the content of the bag both from one side and the other. When the bag is deployed in the front of the operator the whole system is turned upside-down, hence the users need two opposite points of access.
This full-size plate carrier provides the comfort and modularity needed for longer missions. The laser cut PALS system delivers a mission-configurable package without compromising the lightweight of the plate carrier, two key features for prolonged use.
The straps are secured with hook and loop directly to the shoulder straps of the plate carrier so there is no extra padding needed, keeping a very low profile. It is then possible to customize the position of the pivoting point in any area along the shoulder strap of the plate carrier, providing an extremely high degree of customization, even in the field.
The versatile nature of the Easy Access Backpack allows the operator to utilize it an extra support of equipment during a mission or as a site exploitation bag.

SFD-Responder
Carrying a full size trauma kit in a highly populated urban environment is very challenging but the SFD-Responder is a very discreet solution for carrying medical equipment on a daily basis. The COBRA Range Belt is designed to be a multi-functional belt system, it utilizes an Inner-belt to pass through the belt loops of the pants and attaches via hook and loop. The belt features a Cobra buckle with a D-Ring and can be used in conjunction with a lanyard for personal retention.

Long Range/Sniper Pack
This pack is the emblem of a modern modular design. Everything on this pack is customizable and user-configurable. Due to the “double layer” design, there are two main areas in which it is possible to store and organize gear. The outer layer consists of two panels with a laser-cut PALS interface that are divided by a zipper, which allows to gain access to the inner (and more protected layer). Also the inner layer is user-configurable via laser-cut PALS webbing. In order to maximize the real estate of the system on top of the zipper is located a retention system designed to secure a tripod (or possibly a long gun).
As of now there are not many details in regard to this product, you can keep track of it on the FROG.PRO website or on the FROG.PRO Instagram page.
LC-14CR-SF Sniper Chest Rig
The sniper chest rig is a larger size chest rig (14 columns of PALS attachment) that is designed with the sniper and marksman role in mind. The key features of the chest rig revolve around the unusual and uncomfortable positions in which operators with these roles find themselves in.
The front zipper allows to split-open the rig and therefore to get closer to the ground (and more comfortably) in the prone position.
The unique design with the PALS sections purposely misaligned and the contoured architecture allows the chest rig to fit the user anatomically, and therefore to comfortably carry heavier loads.
Since this chest rig is likely going to be utilized in RECCE/patrol applications (quite possibly in conjunction with large pack), the 14 columns of misaligned PALS allow to carry ammo, radios, med kits and range estimation/nav gear, without impeding the bio-mechanics of the operator, in a position in which are readily available.
Blackhawk! Omnivore Multifit Holster | Review
The Blackhawk! Omnivore holster is designed to accommodate more than 150 types of handguns. What differentiates the Blackhawk! Omnivore from other multi-fit holsters on the market is the retention mechanism.
In the past we have seen various manufactures designing a multi-fit holster that was based on multiple handgun sizes and makes. This did not allow almost any of the firearms to have a good (and safe) level of retention because of the large tolerances that were needed in order to fit multiple models of pistols. This design, based on an engineering compromise could not ensure the consistency in the draw, the re-holstering and most importantly the retention; it was therefore not considered a valuable product by most consumers in the industry.
Blackhawk! has rethought the whole process and has designed the holster around the weapon mounted light and not around the weapon itself. This allows to have a very precise mechanism that retains and secures the weapon inside the holster. Since most modern pistols feature a rail attachment systems of some sort (below the fore-end of the barrel) this design is able to standardize the way that the holster gains the purchase on the weapon system. Blackhawk! has also designed the holster around those users that are not interested in utilizing a weapon mounted light.
The Omnivore Holster is available in three variants: for SureFire X300, for Streamlight TLR-1 and TLR-2, and for pistols without a light there is a very low-profile accessory that attaches to the rail.
The firearm is secured with a level 2 retention system that can be disengaged with a thumb activated mechanism. We have tried without any success to pull the gun out of the holster without pressing the thumb switch, even with rough force.
It is remarkable that Blackhawk! has designed an efficient and secure retention system that only locks on the weapon mounted light and not on the weapon’s frame itself. In the past we have witnessed some issues with other holster manufacturers that failed in retaining the weapon (and the holster was designed to utilize the whole frame of the gun for the retention).
The Omnivore holster also features a free-floating weapon design that was implemented mainly for avoiding any premature wear on the firearm caused by the friction of the draw and the re-holstering. We found this feature extremely useful when doing longer range sessions in which the firearm would heat-up and the free-floating design would help to cool it down faster. It is also useful for eliminating any issued with debris and dirt that may interfere with the weapon in rougher environments.
The thumb release is provided with three different sizes and it features a rubberized texture for a secure engagement under critical stress. With the thumb release mechanism adjusted to the correct size of the hand, the draw is very smooth and efficient; and with some practice it can deliver a very quick pistol presentation. The retention mechanism doesn’t disengage if the weapon is pulled at the same time, for added protection and security for all duty applications.
The holster comes with two different injection molded belt attachments, a standard curved belt loop and a paddle. Once the preferred attachment system is bolted to the holster, the whole system is very solid and does not bend or loosens under the weight of the sidearm.
We have mainly used the standard belt loop because it can accommodate both larger tactical belts (works also with a Cobra buckle) as well as smaller standard leather belts, for which Blackhawk! does provide an attachment that eliminates any unwanted movement.
It is also possible to attach the belt loop with various angles for better efficiency with the draw or for some specific requirements.
Blackhawk has kindly given us the chance to try and test this product, and after two months of hard use, the rugged and tough nature of the holster comes to the surface. The finish and the injection-molded frame still hold their shape and detail even after some bad falls and the retention system is as crisp and consistent as when it was new.
In a world of expensive and custom-made tactical products, we appreciate how Blackhawk has successfully designed what is, in our opinion, a high quality, affordable and effective standardized system that is capable of delivering great performance for most users of different segments of this industry.

Masterfire Holster System
The Masterfire is a holster systems that indexes off of the weapon light. The holster covers only the weapon mounted light and the trigger guard and therefore allows almost any size of handgun to be holstered. Since the muzzle of the gun does not intersect the holster, there isn’t any interference with accessories mounted on the gun. It is then possible to mount suppressors, RDS or other various accessories and mods.
The Masterfire has a level 3 retention system and can be belt mounted. It works only with the proprietary line of lights, which includes 5 models (as of Feb 2017):
- the XH 15 (with an entry level price of $150 and 350 Lumens)
- the XH 35 (with a Max-Vision beam)
- the XH 55 (with a Max-Vision beam and a Green Laser)
- the proprietary X400 Ultra (with red and green laser)
- the proprietary X300 Ultra H (with a Total Internal Reflection lens and 600 Lumens)
The key feature of the holster is the way it interacts with the weapon mounted light, and therefore the lack of interference with accessories mounted on the gun (or any after market mods). On the Masterfire is placed a switch that interacts with the weapon mounted light when the gun is presented from the holster. When the switch is in the ON position the light, laser or light+laser combination will be turned on if the weapon is presented and turned OFF when the weapon is reholstered.
The Masterfire interacts with the belt system with an adjustable belt loop.

At SHOT Show 2017, Trijicon displayed the new optics for this year: the new MRO Patrol, the new AccuPower 1-8, the new MGRS and the line of Thermal optics.
MRO Patrol
The new Trijicon MRO Patrol is a modified version of the MRO red dot sight. It features an objective cover and a anti-reflective device and comes from the factory with an ocular lens cover.
AccuPower 1-8 x 28
The new Trijicon AccuPower is a versatile variable low power optic with a first focal plane reticle. The 1 power setting is a true 1x and allows the user to engage the target with both eyes open. The clarity of the optic combined with the high power of 8x allows for very accurate engagements even at distance. The optic’s reticle and adjustments are available both in MIL and MOA.
MGRS (Machine Gun Reflex Sight)
The Trijicon MGRS is designed to be mounted on 249, 240, M134 or on the “Ma Deuce”. I features a very large (both in width and height) 1 x obejective lens which provides and extremely wide field of view. To the MGRS there can be attached a flippable magnified optic.
Trijicon New Thermal Optics
2016 has been a very big year for thermal optics; the price has decreased and the technologies become more compact, lightweight and reliable. 2017 seems to also be a very promising year for the thermal optic segment of the tactical/hunting market with the entry of big players such as Trijicon and other competitors. Trijicon has displayed on the show’s floor some products, showing the interested in pursuing both the Clip-On and the Standalone segments.
